Whether it’s a 25-year-old rookie on the mound in Tyler Lyons, or a 31-year-old veteran in Adam Wainwright, the Cardinals have shut down the Royals’ lineup, holding it to four runs over the first two games of their Interleague series. It continues Wednesday, moving back to St. Louis, where the Royals will look to end their seven-game losing streak, in which they’ve averaged less than two runs a game. Moreover Royals are 1-9 in the last 10 games. The Royals have fallen from seven games above .500 to seven below. Their form is just disastrous.

Cardinals are on the oppisite. They are the team with the best record in the league – 34-17 (0.667). And they are 7-3 in the last 10 matches. Only Braves have better current form right now – 8:2.

The Royals will have to do their hitting against left-hander Lance Lynn, who has followed up his breakout 2012 with a 7-1 start and 2.95 ERA. Lynn should be well-rested after needing just 77 pitches to work through six scoreless innings his last time out against the Dodgers.

The Royals will hand the ball to Luis Mendoza, who is still trying to make his mark as a member of the starting rotation this season, his second as a full-time starter with the Royals. After beginning the season with a 7.00 ERA through his first four appearances, the 29-year-old native of Mexico has thrown four straight starts in which he’s allowed three runs or less.

The difference between Lynn and Mendoza is obvious. In addition the current form and season ambitions in Cardinals and Royals are different too, so take Cardinals and GL!
