When the Phillies and Padres open their three-game series on Monday at Petco Park, it will be a showdown between two left-handers who haven’t done much losing lately.  Eric Stults, who is 6-5 (3.25 ERA), enters the first game with a 2-1 record in his last five starts for the Padres, giving up two runs or fewer in each outing. He’s pitched at least seven innings in four of those starts, including a complete game in which he surrendered one run on two hits and a walk against the D-backs on June 14. All season long, Stults has been particularly effective at Petco Park, going 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in six starts. In addition Sluts has surrendered only two runs in first inning in his last 10 starts.

Although that’s impressive, it doesn’t quite match what Stults’ counterpart on Monday has done for more than a month and a half. Phillies starter Cliff Lee, who is 9-2 (2.53 ERA), has not lost since May 1, going 7-0 with a 1.97 ERA in nine starts. Most recently, Lee limited the Nationals to two runs through eight innings on Tuesday. The root of his success, he said, typically lies in not falling behind hitters. What about his first innings stats? Lee is almost perfect in his first inning allowing only one run in last 10 starts for Phillies.

When we know all these facts we think it’s not a hard task to pick up the right bet here. Take the Under and GL!
